The Oliver House Blog
Incorporated in 1902, modern-day Bisbee is known for its rich history, diverse community, and natural beauty. A quick walk about our little mountain town will surely place you in Old Bisbee—the heart and soul of our city. As you stroll around town, you’ll see historic architecture and miner’s homes alongside small businesses—everything from your local psychics and Old West-inspired alehouses to art galleries and music venues.
Bisbee was a primarily a mining town until Phelps Dodge closed the mine in 1975. After that, the town became quiet and needed a boost of energy. In the 1980s and 1990s, when many of the properties were abandoned or being sold for the prices of back taxes owed, many artists began to move in and revitalize the town into what it has become today. Without it's thriving art community, Bisbee may have become just another desolate desert town.
Recent trends indicate that more wedding-planning couples are downsizing. While that may seem shocking for those who consider marriage “the most important day of their life,” plenty of Millennial and Gen Z love birds disagree. A majority of younger couples, actually, believe weddings are too expensive.
To combat rising costs and keep things personal, couples who are diving into married life are looking for affordable, highly intimate, and longer-lasting getaways to celebrate their union. Lucky for them: our historical, mountain town is just the place for that!
